Comstock has a fully equipped and permitted gold/silver ore processing system and facilities at American Flat, less than a mile west of State Route 342. The processing facilities consist of the following:
- Ore crushing plant with a 1,000 tons of ore per hour capacity, consisting of screens, a jaw crusher, a cone crusher, an agglomerator, and a network of more than 20 conveyors to stack crushed and agglomerated ore on the heap leach processing pads.
- Roughly 50 acres of permitted processing pads where cyanide solution is dripped through the ore to remove gold and silver into solution. Associated with the heap processing system are a series of barren and pregnant solution ponds.
- A processing plant inside a metal building. The processing system is a Merrill–Crowe Process which is a separation technique for removing gold and silver from the solution obtained by the cyanide leaching of ores on the leach pad. After the solution passes through clarifiers, zinc powder is used to precipitate the precious metals from solution. The solution is filtered, and the remaining solids are dewatered through filter presses and then placed in a retort for mercury recovery. The precipitate containing the precious metals is dried, mixed with fluxing agents and then smelted in a furnace to produce dore’, bars containing gold, silver, and other metals. The dore is then sent to an offsite refinery to separate the gold, silver, and other metals. The solution is recirculated back into the leach system.
- The American Flat Processing Facility also contains three fully equipped labs for metallurgical testing, assay, gold and silver solution analysis to support ongoing mine operations. Ancillary facilities include three portable office buildings, a warehouse facility and shop, and a fuel station.
